Chamber Awards 2008

Fifty thousand reasons to enter the chamber awards 2008

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) is encouraging UK businesses to enter this year’s chamber awards, for the chance to win £50,000 courtesy of the RBS Group. Now in its fifth year, the chamber awards 2008 sets out to identify outstanding business achievement within the UK business community.

There are eight different categories of awards and companies can enter as many as they wish.

The categories comprise:

Most Promising New Business

Award for Innovation Through Technology

The Green Award

Entrepreneur of The Year

Achievement in International Business

Award for Excellence in People Development

Business of the Year

Award for Excellence in Customer service (NEW)

The top prize of £50,000 (donated by the RBS Group) will be awarded to the company that the judges agree should win the overall Award for Outstanding Business Achievement and will be announced along with the national winners at the Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony on 27th November 2008 at the Natural History Museum in London.

Last year, this was won by Tyrrells Potato Chips Ltd. The judges remarked on the way the company approached the green issue in such an ambitious way.  They introduced reed beds for waste water and extensive recycling and energy reduction measures, and have provided nesting for wildlife. Tyrrells has its own production of organic potatoes and rapeseed oil, thus reducing its transport needs.

Frank Hewitt, the chamber’s chief executive, said: “I am proud of the chamber awards, as they provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the success of businesses in Northern Ireland.  There are a lot of unsung business heroes and we are keen to give them the honours that they deserve.  I was particularly pleased last year, when Northbrook Technology in Northern Ireland and Randox Laboratories Ltd both won awards.  I hope that Northern Ireland’s success will continue in 2008.”

The chamber awards will be judged in two stages at both a regional and national level. The closing date for entries is 27 June 2008. Those businesses that enter by May 30 2008 will be entered in a draw to receive a £200 voucher from a selection of high street retailers.
