Applying for an ATA Carnet

INSTRUCTION SHEET

  1. When applying for a Carnet, it is essential to fill in an ATA Carnet Application Form and Undertaking. This form is double sided and can be hand written
  2. PLEASE COMPLETE GENERAL LIST OF GOODS. The list must be individually itemised, detailed and valued. A list of goods MUST also be TYPED on the reverse of the green cover and the relevant carnet forms. Please see “Check List” – point 10 on reverse of security rate chart. In order to prevent delays or problems when processing the Carnet, we suggest that your “goods list” is faxed to us before printing it onto the back of the Carnet forms, so that we may check it for any possible errors. IT IS THE HOLDER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THE GENERAL LIST IS CORRECT PRIOR TO THE SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION.
  3. Goods comprising of several separate parts may be given a single item number. If so, the nature, the value and, if necessary, the weight of each separate part should be entered in column 2 and only the total weight and value should appear in columns 4 & 5.
  4. There MUST be a total value in words and figures (preferably Sterling) – or in another currency the sterling equivalent must be inserted. This should be noted at the bottom of the page in the box provided).
  5. There should be NO CONSUMABLES, i.e. perishable goods.
  6. The country of origin must be completed in the two digit ISO code, (i.e. United Kingdom =GB). (See ISO list).
  7. The carnet form MUST be signed before use on the front cover (F1A) in the bottom right hand corner by the CARNET APPLICANT. Thereafter subsequent pages are signed in the presence of Customs.
  8. Please note that the carnet forms (GREEN front cover, YELLOW, WHITE and BLUE vouchers) will NOT be accepted IF HAND WRITTEN.
  9. There are 2 payments to be made when using a Carnet. The first one is the issuing fee. The second payment is the security/indemnity, which depends on the total value of your goods and the country you are going to*. The security, to the nearest pound, must be given in one of the following ways: by cash or Banker’s Draft, or an approved bank guarantee. Such a guarantee will only be accepted when given on the Issuing Chamber’s official form. Please consult “Security rate chart” for the rate (%) applicable to the type of goods you are taking to your destination.
